Lakhmir ‘Mink’ Chawla
Lakhmir Chawla, known by ‘Mink’ to most, is one of the co-founders of KAH-DC Metro. As a son of immigrant parents who arrived in the US in 1968 to escape the communist junta in Myanmar, Mink is clearly aware that everyone and anyone can be dispossessed overnight. Therefore, Mink firmly believes that there exists a responsibility for those who have been fortunate to try and help the less fortunate, and feeding people is a simple and profound way to accomplish this goal. He believes that organizations like KAH-DC Metro, and others like it can through the multiplicity of many good acts make a real difference for those who otherwise might go hungry.
Jonathan Fix
A freshman at the University of Maryland, Jonathan Fix has been involved in volunteer activities since the beginning of high school. Growing up in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., he began volunteering at a local homeless shelter, became active in his high school Key Club, and was fortunate to be able to go to Kericho, Kenya to volunteer with HIV outreach in the region. Building on his experience in Kericho, he worked with a colleague in Kenya to found, and continues to lead, a nonprofit organization to support education of children in Kericho. Jonathan began working with KAH-DC Metro last year. Particularly given the backdrop of his experience with the poverty-stricken in Kenya, Jonathan greatly appreciates how the generosity of those who volunteer can so greatly aid those in need around the world.
